Individual Wastewater Systems, or IWS, is an encompassing term that includes cesspools, septic systems, aerobic treatment units, and other alternative solutions.
As the Engineers, we assess your site, determine the best solution, create a set of plans, work with the DOH to get a permit, and provide a list of licensed contractors who you can use to do the install. We’ll then work with your selected contractor to make sure everything goes smoothly during install, and then we finalize the permit and you’ll be approved to use your new IWS.

Septic Systems
A septic system is the most affordable and most common individual wastewater solution. Whether you’re looking to build your dream off grid house, abandon your pesky cesspool, or add an Ohana to your property - we’re here to help design your wastewater solution.
Aerobic Treatment Units
Properties that are within 1000 ft of a public drinking well, as well as properties that are within 50 ft of a stream, wetland, or shoreline, may require an upgrade to an Aerobic Treatment Unit. This system provides advanced treatment, and ensures that the water body or well near you stays clean & safe.
Sewer Laterals
Sometimes, a sewer line is right next door! Instead of installing an IWS, some properties may be able to connect to an existing sewer system. This is a less common solution, but worth looking into for properties in town, Lahaina, and Kihei. Very few upcountry properties have this option.
